Reading an Orchard Workshop
Saturday, August 5th, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
The Gloucestershire Orchard Trust and Three Counties Traditional Orchard Project are running this informal two hour workshop at the delightful historic Wick Court Orchards at Arlingham, south of Gloucester (home to Farms for City Children). Jim Chapman, who has recently published the booklet “Understanding Orchards in the Landscape” (£5) by GOT/Hartpury Heritage Trust is leading this workshop.
The workshop will involve looking at historic clues in the landscape (e.g. ridge and furrow) of these magnificent orchards.
Jim is also very knowledgeable about perry pears and has carried out DNA analysis of the Wick Court pears. He is curator of the National Perry Pear Centre at Hartpury Heritage Trust and offers a perry pear identification service at various events. He is on the GOT Committee, so we work closely together.
Booking essential via GOT Coordinator Ann Smith firstname.lastname@example.org
On the day: Please bring packed lunch and refreshments for a picnic in the lovely new roundhouse or adjourn for lunch at a nearby pub. Please also bring appropriate weather attire, suitable footwear and be prepared for uneven ground. A notebook and pen may be useful. Sorry, no dogs and please don’t leave dogs in your car.
Thanks to the TCTOP/Heritage Lottery Fund for funding this workshop.
