Henley Bank
Something of a rarity, a perry pear orchard within an urban setting, the orchard was a given to the Trust in 2022 as part of the adjacent housing development. Although bordered by the A46 on one side and housing on the others, it’s a deceptively tranquil spot, is a valuable resource for wildlife and contains some magnificent perry pear trees, estimated to be about 150 years old, meaning the site has been an orchard since the about the 1870s.

The orchard will be managed as a community orchard and work continues to restore it, with the ambition of the orchard becoming a balanced mosaic of habitats; ancient fruit trees, species rich grassland, areas of wild scrub as well as newly planted trees, together providing refuge for numerous species of fauna, flora and funga, a space for the local community – as well as our Supporters – to enjoy.
